Stories of Recovery

Kelly, Friend of God Recovery Center Graduate and Program Coordinator

"My name is Kelly, I’m 31 years old and I was an IV heroin and meth addict. I came to the Friend of God Recovery Center scared, broken and lost. My addiction caused me to lose everything in my life- my husband, my 4 children, my home, job, self worth, dignity, self respect and everything else. I spent a year getting to know Jesus, finding myself, learning life skills, learning to care for others and finding my purpose.

My marriage has been restored and my life has meaning again. This is an amazing God centered place like no other. I completed my 12 month stay and I’m now full-time staff. My greatest joy is giving back what I was so freely given and sharing Jesus with amazing women everyday.

'May all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who long for your saving help always say, The Lord is great!' -Psalm 40:16"

Cindy, Friend of God Recovery Center Program Graduate

“My name is Cindy, I’m 41 years old. I have 3 beautiful children and 2 beautiful granddaughters. Like most women in addiction, I grew up in a broken and dysfunctional family. My drug abuse began at a young age and spiraled out of control over 22 years. I was in and out of jail, prison and several rehabs. March 2019 I reached out to the Friend of God recovery center from jail and it’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. The love of Christ that everyone involved with this program showed me was more than I could have imagined. They helped me through one of the lowest times in my life and showed me love like I had never felt. Today I am delivered and free from  my past. Today I have hope and a purpose.”

Jazlyn, Friend of God Recovery Center Program Graduate

"My name is Jazlyn Pitre, I’m 22 years old and I’m from Amory Mississippi.  My life as a child wasn’t like most children.

My parents divorced when I was 3. I moved in with my grandparents. I was sexually abused from age 7 until I was 12 by a family friend. I experienced a lot of pain and hurt growing up. I started smoking marijuana and taking pills at the age 13 to numb the pain. I thought that would make all my past hurts go away and it did for a while but once those memories started to flood back in I felt like I needed something stronger so I started doing cocaine at the age of 15. My grandma got tired of me running in and out all hours of the night so I moved in with my mom who was using meth. Before I knew it I was using meth with my mom. I dropped out of school at the of 17. By 18 I had been to jail several times. February of 2019 I got locked up and put on probation. I couldn’t pass a drug screen so I was sentenced to long term treatment. That was the last thing that I wanted to do!!

When I came to Friend of God, I was just coming because I had to, but over time the Lord started working on me, changing my heart, healing all my past hurts. Once I surrendered my life to His will he showed me what my purpose was. It was not to do drugs, it was to show other people the love of Christ and the transformation he can and will do in your life if you will just let him.

My stand on verse is Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God , and are called according to their purpose."
